International Jaguar Style
Throughout the history of Jaguar, style has always been a recognizable trademark. Unlike most automobile models, which could be carbon copies, Jaguars have always stood out. The first car to bear the Jaguar name was the SS Jaguar 100, which was manufactured by SS Cars Ltd in 1935. The company changed their name to Jaguar Cars Ltd. Although the first Jaguars exhibited the refinement expected from the manufacturer the designs have evolved throughout the years.
Of course Jaguar is associated with luxury vehicles and that is no surprise, when you consider the roots of the organization go back to custom made horse drawn coaches. This panache for detail began with the first Jaguar, the SS Jaguar 100. This stylish roadster included classic running boards and a jazzy grill that was a trendsetter for the time. From here Jaguar’s style changed to include a plethora of luxury sedans and sporty coupes. The Mark series of sedans is a popular example of how Jaguar mixed the classic elements of the roadster with the practicality and comfort of a sedan. Unlike the two seat roadsters, the Mark series was a lavish four-seater with plush cushions and easy driving. The early sedans kept the running board style, but eventually it was dropped and replaced with a streamlined body, which incorporated chrome for detail. By the 1960’s the roadster look would be dropped and replaced with the popular sedan body frame that Jaguar is recognized by today.
With the sporty Jaguar of the 1950’s and 60’s the style changed again and embraced the futuristic design elements that were popular in everything from furniture to appliances. The XK is a perfect example of how Jaguar’s style changed. The XK started out as a boxier sports car, but evolved into a long nosed spit fire resembling a speeding bullet.
Many of the models from the past are still with us today, however the style has changed. The XK series continues to be a popular choice among consumers. The 2010 XK has subtle changes incorporated within this sporty model, such as LED headlights and a new look for the front of the body. The redesigns also include interior improvements, such as a heated steering wheel and a ventilated seat. These modern touches have been integrated throughout all of the Jaguar models.
Jaguar’s style has evolved throughout the years, but the car manufacturer continues to provide consumers with cutting edge designs that reflect the company’s high standards for luxury and quality.
